January 2022
We at The Brinery are stepping into 2022 with our feet in mid-pivot as we spin and twirl with the challenging times we are all living in. Like you, we’ve experienced quarantines, shutdowns, uncertainty, increasing costs, and some major supply chain issues. For us, one of the main issues we have faced is a worldwide glass shortage. This last one is what brings us to our announcement today:
All Brinery retail sauerkrauts will be switching to a new, smaller 16 oz jar size in 2022.
For over 10 years, we have sold our sauerkraut in 24 oz jars, which is actually non-standard in the glass world, and that makes its supply and demand more irregular. And because we are a small company, much of the available glass is secured by larger companies.
By switching to a 16 oz jar (a more standard jar size), we are much less likely to experience a shortage, since there is more volume of this size jar in the marketplace. In fact, it will be a familiar jar to most of our customers, because it is the same exact jar that we package our kimchi and other small batch pickles into!
You’ll start to see the new jar on your local stores shelves in February and March.
If you’re like any of us, over the years you might have encountered this scenario:
24 oz kraut jars that hang around in the refrigerator a bit too long with the last few tablespoons uneaten! A benefit of the new smaller size is that we’ll all be finishing our jars to the last bite now, which means fresher, better quality kraut!
That’s the news for now. We will continue to adapt to this rapidly changing market, and we’ll do our best to keep you in the loop as we do so.
Happy New Year to all our friends and customers.
We wish you a bounty of beneficial bacteria in 2022!
